A modern-day Cinderella

A modern-day Cinderella

Our modern day Cinderella was seen wearing a stunning red dress at the latest state dinner in honor of the Chinese President, Zi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyaun.

The dress was created by designer Jenny Packham. Red was chosen in honor of the Chinese republic, as red is the country's official color.

The highlight of the attire of the Duchess was her tiara. This is the third time Kate has ever worn a tiara, borrowed from the queen. The first time was on her wedding day and the second time was at the diplomatic reception of 2013.

The Papirus-Lotus Flower tiara was originally worn as a necklace by the Queen mother. However she decided that she preferred wearing the diamonds and pearls on top of her head instead of around her neck. The necklace was therefore transformed into a tiara by Garrard Jewelers, who had to disassemble the necklace and recreate it into a tiara. The tiara was worn by the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, Princess Margaret’s daughter-in-law, Viscountess Linley (née Serena Stanhope) wore it on her wedding day, and now Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge.

It is one of the very delicate tiaras of the Royal collection.

Kate also wore the diamond chandelier earrings, on loan by the Queen. It is not the first time she is spotted wearing them. The earrings consist of every cut of diamonds; ending in three large drops. Princess Elizabeth received them as a wedding present in 1947 from her parents, the king and the Queen. Elizabeth was not able to wear them until she had her ears pierced.

The tiara Princess Kate was wearing on her wedding day, on the 29th of April 2011, was made for the Queen's Mother in 1936 and is currently on display in Paris. The halo tiara was made by Cartier and was commissioned by King George VI, the current queen's father. It was a gift for the Queen Mother who passed it on to her daughter in honor of her 18th birthday. The tiara was previously worn by Princesses Margaret and Anne. It has 739 brilliant cut diamonds and 149 baguette cut diamonds.

As you can see throughout the history, royalty favored wearing diamonds. Whether as a tiara, necklace or earrings, you will not see a member of the royal family without them. You too can recreate the feel of being a royalty by getting your very own diamond jewelry. And always remember these two important facts; "All girls are princesses" and "A diamond is a girl's best friend".
